Interior Design Imitating Life

I have a confession. Prior to buying our home I was so excited that I would have the opportunity to decorate our home in a way that my family would love. As much as I want to make my home the best it could possibly be for some reason I have this strange fear of color. It's complicated to explain how something so non permanent seems like such a risk for me.
My living room is currently beige and I chose the furniture with the intentions of livening up the space with various accent colors at different times of the year. Now that I have set the canvas for myself to create this beautiful space, I have not delivered.
It may be small to some but it's disappointing to me. It's kind of a metaphor for life. You constantly build yourself up to deliver. You prepare and plan and even anticipate the opportunity and when the time comes, you freeze up because you're scared the out come won't be perfect. I know I can't be the only one who does this!

The Happiest Little Five Year Old

Operation birthday cake was a huge success! My big girl loved it and that's what it is all about! She enjoyed her whole day complete with games, presents, and the "birthday chair". My whole family actually loved the cake and that made me feel so good. I love trying new recipes and it's always a plus when I get good reviews.
Making the cake is so much more personal so this is going to be a new tradition for us. This weekend was the best time for baking and family time. We had a big snow storm and it had us in the house for few days. Winter sure is making an appearance but I'm not complaining at all.

The Best Birthday Cake Ever!

In a few weeks my baby girl will be five ! She is the sweetest and has been telling us everything she wants to do and eat on her birthday since her sisters birthday back in December. Among all of the requests she's asked for a strawbery cake.

Initially, I thought to myself  i would pick one up. Then, I got to thinking... I can bake it myself! So I went on instagram and started my search for "strawberry cake from scratch". I found a few and am super excited to see how it turns out. If it's a fail,  I can always run to Wegmans and pick one up.

I'm optimistic about it though as I am a pretty good baker. I love the thought of home made vs store bought. I'll post how it turns out.

Quick and Tasty

It's Sunday and though I typically like to make my family a nice big meal, sometimes I don't feel like it. That doesn't mean I don't feed them. I just look for a more effortless meal. These turkey and cheese filled grands did the trick! I served with fresh salad and that's it! No complaints!
Directions:
-Flatten bisquits like you would for pizza crust. Flatten as much as possible because pastry will puff up a lot.
-spoon in seasoned ground turkey.
-sprinkle cheese
-fold over dough to make a pocket. Pinch the ends.
-Put in oven for 15 min or until dough is golden.

Weekend Rewind

This weekend we did our usual kid friendly family fun things. And added to the mix a couple of recipes I found on pinterest. There's only a pic of two but I tried 3 and one was a fail. BUT my home made apple sauce was amazing as well as our donuts. These recipes were great to do with the kids so we will definitely do these again. They were both soooo GOOD!

Baby Does Not Need a New Pair of Shoes!

So the one thing I can't stand more than receiving something I don't need or want is buying some one else something they don't need or want. It's a waste of money and these days, I'm not into waste. So after having babies of my own, I've learned there are a few things you will always need that you may not think of in the beginning.

Now, I feel it is my civic duty to pass this information forward. I suggest other mommies pay this forward to other expectant moms they may come across. Get them what they'll need vs what they want!

Here's a little gift package I put together for a friend...the theme here is most if these things can be thrown in a diaper bag. But you can do other themes like first aid package...feeding package, late night early morning feeding packages, bath time.....hopefully you get the picture. You can make it really fun and taylor it to fit with the expectant family's needs.

Holiday Cheer

This Christmas is our first Christmas in our new home! We have always tried to make Christmas feel special for the girls because my mom did that for me.
There were so many great memories.
Now, we want to create our own great memories. So this year something new was added to the mix. Elf on the Shelf. She has been a big hit in my house. The girls love waking up in the morning to find out where she will be. Chris and I just love seeing the smiles on their faces. It is priceless!
